Understand the Language of Music
Music is more than just a collection of sounds; it’s a brilliant language. But only those who choose to invest in learning it will know just how magnificent it is. This course is geared towards students who can already play some music by ear and want a deeper understanding of music, and an introduction to classical music and theory. Students will learn to read and understand musical notation while building a solid foundation in piano performance and classical musicianship.

Music literacy - learn to read and play the notes and symbols of both the treble and bass clef
Rhythm - practice rhythm using different time signatures, beats, and tempos, perfecting your internal metronome
Dynamics - discover the language of dynamics and articulation in sheet music and how to apply it to your playing
Fluency - acquire skills and practice to gradually make your music reading more fluent and accurate
Music theory - discover the science behind the music you play, including intervals, scales, chords, and harmonies
Classical repertoire - explore the foundations of classical musicianship and acquire the knowledge and skill necessary to advance further into the world of classical music

This course is designed for students who already have some musical exposure, whether through playing by ear, informal lessons, or exposure to music at home, and are ready to take the next step in their musical development. If you love playing around on the piano and are motivated to learn more about how music works while gaining a thorough foundation for launching your own classical repertoire, this course is for you!

Students will leave with a thorough literacy and understanding of music notation and theory as well as piano technique. Upon completion, students will have all the tools they need to dive into the world of genuine classical music and the guidance in choosing their next step.
MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Aidy Muller
Aidy began her musical education at a young age and has spent years developing a strong foundation in piano, music theory, and classical musicianship. She trained extensively under renowned music educator Joni Miller, as well as other musical coaches, gaining a deep understanding of both performance and pedagogy. In addition to classical and contemporary piano, Aidy plays the flute and guitar, and has acquired a broad perspective on music across multiple instruments and styles. Her patience and dedication to her students’ successes sets them on a path of lifelong growth, and inspires them as they gain both technical proficiency and a deeper appreciation for the artistry and structure of music
